TEXAS REDISTRICTING

Updates and News about the 2011 Redistricting Cycle in the Lone Star State. This website's goal is to try to make sure the redistricting process is as transparent and accessible as possible to the public. Hopefully, it will be of some use to a broad range of interested parties, both lawyers and non-lawyers. Have questions, comments, suggestions, additional content, or a redistricting joke (or two)? Despite the announcement by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott of a partial ‘deal’ on interim maps, a number of redistricting plaintiffs told the San Antonio court this afternoon that they had not agreed to any deal and said that some of them, in fact, had not been contacted at all by the Attorney General’s office.

The objecting plaintiffs include State Sen. Wendy Davis, the Travis County plaintiffs, NAACP, and LULAC.

The advisory also outlined the districts in dispute:

State house:

HD 26, 33, 35, 41, 54, 117, 144, and 149

Also failure to draw naturally occurring districts that reflect population growth in Dallas County, Bell County, and eastern Harris County.

Elimination of HD 101 and 106 in Dallas County.

State senate:

SD-10

Congress:

CD-23, 27, 30, 35 individually,

CD-10, 17, 21, & 25 collectively,

CD-6, 12, 24, 26, 32, & 33 collectively,

CD-2, 7, 8, 14, 22 & 27 collectively, and

CD-15, 16, 20, 23, 27, 28, 34, & 35 collectively
