TEXAS REDISTRICTING & ELECTION LAW

Updates about ongoing redistricting litigation in the Lone Star State and coverage of election law more generally. This website's goal is to try to make sure the redistricting process and litigation over voting law is as transparent and accessible as possible to the public. Hopefully, it will be of some use to a broad range of interested parties, both lawyers and non-lawyers. Have questions, comments, suggestions, additional content, or a redistricting joke (or two)? This morning, the State of Texas filed the formal paperwork to seek Supreme Court review of the district court decision denying preclearance to the state’s voter ID law.

Many observers expect the state to ask the Supreme Court to hear the case on an expedited basis, given statements that the state would like to have decision in time for the law to be in effect (if the Supreme Court reverses the district court) in time for the May 2013 local government elections.

The state’s notice of appeal can be found here.
